Overview

ACJ reconstruction (distal clavicle ligament reconstruction) restores stability to a damaged or unstable ACJ. This procedure is recommended for chronic ACJ instability or failed previous repair. Techniques may involve hamstring autograft or synthetic ligament reconstruction. Most patients achieve excellent stability and return to sport.

Common symptoms

The procedure

Mr Mitra typically performs arthroscopic-assisted or arthroscopic reconstruction using hamstring autograft or synthetic material to restore ACJ ligaments. Specialized anchors are placed to secure the graft in optimal position. This technique provides excellent stability while maintaining normal anatomy and shoulder mechanics.

Recovery

Initial recovery focuses on protection with sling immobilisation for 4-6 weeks. Early physiotherapy begins to restore motion gradually. Strengthening progresses carefully to protect the repair. Most patients return to normal activities by 8-12 weeks and sport by 4-6 months depending on demands.
