Surgery is only half the story. This is the exact, physio-led recovery pathway Mr Mitra follows with his own patients — so you know what to do at every stage to get back to full strength.

This is a general guide for rotator cuff repair recovery. Your personal programme will be tailored to you at your consultation — always follow the specific advice given by Mr Mitra and your physiotherapist.

Phase 1

Weeks 0–2

Protect & settle

Rest in a sling, manage swelling and pain, and keep your hand, wrist and elbow gently moving.

Phase 2

Weeks 2–6

Early movement

Begin gentle passive and assisted movements, guided closely by your physiotherapist.

Phase 3

Weeks 6–12

Strengthening

Progress to active movement and light, progressive strengthening exercises.

Phase 4

Weeks 12+

Return to activity

Advanced strengthening and a gradual, structured return to sport and full activity.
